The BMW S1000RR is the most powerful superbike

The BMW S1000RR is the most powerful oruduciton 1,000-cc superbike

You know it's a different year in motorcycling when the most dramatic new models are from BMW. While other manufacturers are cutting back development on new sportbikes, the German manufacturer, previously known for fast cars and sleepy motorcycles, has unveiled what is possibly the fastest superbike on the planet.

BMW: At 193 horsepower, BMW's new S1000RR is the most powerful production 1,000-cubic-centimetre superbike. It may also be the easiest to ride thanks to its sophisticated Dynamic Traction Control system that prevents wheelspin while cornering. It's a complex compilation of sensors and actuators that measures, among other things, lean angle and the speed of both wheels. Three of the four available modes -- sport, race andslick-- offer the full 193-hp experience with differing levels of electronic reticence through the electronic throttle. BMW Canada also includes its race ABS in the S1000RR's $17,300 asking price.

BMW says the first new production in-line six since the CBX, the Concept 6 1,600-cc powerhouse, will be produced in the near future, first as a sport tourer. Using canted cylinders similar to the K1300 fours, incorporating a narrow bore/long-stroke configuration and having its alternator mounted behind the crankshaft, the 6's engine is narrower than previous across-the-beam sixes. Imagine how wicked it will sound in a full-blown sportbike.

BMW's R1200RT and GS will get variants of the DOHC boxer twin first debuted in the ultra-sporty HP2. In RT guise, maximum torque improves to 88 pound-feet, while maximum power stays at 110 hp. The same numbers for the GS represent an increase in both horsepower and torque.

HONDA: Honda's VFR1200 sport tourer has an all-new 1,237-cc, 76-degree V4 boasting 173 hp. Unlike previous VFRs, the 1200 is shaft driven with a novel offset pivot arrangement that is claimed to reduce the torque effect common to shaft-driven motorcycles. The VFR is also the first motorcycle to sport one of the new dual-clutch, automatic-shifting, six-speed manual transmissions popular in sports cars. ABS is standard.

Honda's other major introduction is a new line of VTX1300 cruisers based on the Fury. Using the same 1,312-cc, fuel-injected engine as the Fury, the Sabre, Stateline and Interstate offer more straightforward intentions than the chopper-styled Fury. The resurrected Sabre name reflects the long, low look of a performance cruiser, while the Stateline is more traditional with a 17-inch front mag wheel replacing the Sabre's skinny 90/90-21 item. The Interstate's touring focus sees the addition of floorboards, leather-covered saddlebags and a windscreen for long-distance comfort.

SUZUKI: In yet another twist on the sport touring theme, Suzuki has designed an all-new fairing, saddlebags and top case for its classic Bandit. Still displacing 1,255 cc of fuel-injected torque, the GSX1250SEA packs all that plus anti-lock brakes into a $13,299 package. Think of it as a less expensive but equally sophisticated alternative to Honda's ST1300 and Yamaha's FJR1300. Those with a sportier bent can opt for the $11,799 FA model, which features the same powerful engine and ABS system but eschews the luggage and touring windscreen.

Kyosho F16 FIGHTING FALCON DF55 Electric RC Airplane ARF

Kyosho F16 FIGHTING FALCON DF55 Electric RC Airplane ARF @ Hobby-Estore.com
Heralded as the real pilot's fighter jet, the F16 Fighting Falcon was designed to be small, fast and lethal without all the bells and whistles of much larger US fighters. The superior visibility from the cockpit, the advanced radar systems, and the close-range weapon systems make this the ideal fighter for air-to-air combat. Placed in service in January 1979, the Fighting Falcon still fights along side the F22 and F117 Air Force fighters today. This legendary aircraft is captured in scale detail and matching performance, as Kyosho's first DF55 brushless ducted fan RC jet.

The new DF55 is a brushless ducted fan unit with an impellor diameter of 55mm, which is 10mm larger than the popular DF45.It's installed in a hybrid foam fuselage that sets new standards for scale appearance and durability. The airframe can handle the higher loads that result from the exceptional performance of the bigger ducted fan while remaining incredibly light. The F16 is factory assembled with the brushless motor, micro servos and brushless speed control installed! All you need to do is install a LiPo battery pack and a receiver of your choice, and you're ready to fly one of the most high-performance ducted fan jets available.

Harley-Davidsons on display at a motorcycle show.

Harley-Davidsons on display at a motorcycle show.

I've hosted the occasional garage party in my time. The kind where there are a couple of Coca-Colas in the ice box, some Munchie Mix in aluminum trays, and a few guys standing around kicking the tires of my various motorcycle projects.

But when Harley-Davidson says they're holding a garage party, they mean they're hosting a (trademarked) Garage Party.

And according to Diane Wild, general manager of Calgary Harley-Davidson, the whole idea behind the Garage Party is to introduce women to the machines.

"The Garage Party is meant to familiarize women with the sport of motorcycle riding," Wild says. "We explain how to get a licence, and many other aspects of the sport."

During the month of March Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada is promoting a series of Garage Party events across Canada ( www.garageparty.ca).

Calgary Harley-Davidson held one last Sunday, and Kane's Harley-Davidson hosted one on Wednesday night.

Wild says they presented three information stations. There was one on motor clothes, where the fit and function of protective gear was discussed. Another focused on the various "families" of Harley-Davidson motorcycle products, and how a model equipped with forward controls differed from one with mid controls, for example. The last station demonstrated how to safely lift or pick up a motorcycle if it has fallen on its side.

"We want to show that it's not difficult to lift up a bike," Wild says.

For decades, women have chosen to ride motorcycles -- in 1916 sisters Augusta and Adeline Van Buren rode 1,000cc Indian Power Plus machines from New York to Los Angeles, and were the first women motorcyclists to cross the U.S. Countless others have swung their leg over the saddle of a motorcycle. But it's really only been in the past few years that manufacturers have taken notice of an untapped market, and some makers are designing machines that are more comfortable for the female rider.

"There are a lot of women who've been passengers and it seems they're deciding it's time for them to get their own bikes," says Jo-Anne Farquhar, manager of communications for the Motorcycle and Moped Industry Council of Canada. "They've decided it's time for them to control the ride."

Nancy Klensch is just such a woman. The 38-year old Calgarian owns and operates Summit Kids, a new out-of-school care program with a facility near the University of Calgary. She attended the Garage Party at Calgary Harley-Davidson.

Hercules & Airbus A380, Russia’s Antonov An-225 Mriya & ‘Caspian Sea Monster’

AlphaSim has released the LUN Ekranoplan, ‘Caspian Sea Monster’

The one Lun-class ekranoplan originally developed by the Soviet Union military transports, and based mostly on the shores of the Caspian Sea and Black, at a naval base near Kaspiysk. During the Cold War, ekranoplans were sighted for years on the Caspian Sea as huge, fast-moving objects. The name Caspian Sea Monster was given by US intelligence operatives who had spotted the huge vehicle, which looked like an airplane with the outer halves of the wings removed. After the end of the Cold War, the "monster" was revealed to be one of several Soviet military designs meant to fly only a few meters above water, saving energy and staying below enemy radar.

The 8-engined sea skimmer could have been a deadly weapon of war with it’s 6 ‘Sunburn’ anti-ship missiles and ability to travel at high speed under the radar of patrol aircraft. The Lun-class (Russian: "Hen Harrier") (NATO reporting name: "Utka"; Russian: "Duck") ekranoplan Wing-In-Ground effect vehicle was an extremely unusual aircraft designed by Rostislav Evgenievich Alexeev and used by the Soviet & Russian navies from 1987 to sometime in the late '90s. Wing-in-ground-effect aircraft use the extra lift of their large wings when in proximity to the surface (about one to four meters). It is also interesting to note that this is the largest military aircraft ever built, with a length of 73m, rivaling that of the Hughes H-4 Hercules "Spruce Goose" and many modern jumbo jets.

the largest aircraft in the world is the Antonov An-225 Mriya

Currently the world's largest aircraft, the first Antonov An-225 Mriya (meaning "Dream") proto- type flew on 21 Dec. 1988. It was designed and built by Antonov Design Bureau (headquarters in Kiev, Ukraine), known for their outstanding achievements in producing heavy transport aircraft. It is the largest aircraft to ever takeoff more than once. Capable of transporting oversized objects externally, the An-225 was designed mainly to transport the Russian space shuttle "Buran" and its components from a service area to a launch site, although the Antonov bureau is looking for possible commercial applications for the enormous aircraft.

Construction of the An-124 provided the basis for the new aircraft with Antonov using many of the same components to keep cost and development efforts down. Although the basic configuration is the same as the An-124, the An-225 is longer, has no rear ramp/door assembly, and incorporates a 32-wheel landing gear system (two nose and fourteen main wheel bogies, seven per side, each with two wheels). The Mriya is not a military aircraft, however, it packs a great potential for military use as a super-heavy transport, it is capable of airlifting cargos that no other aircraft in the world is capable of.

H-4 (HK-1) Hercules

The Hughes H-4 Hercules (registration NX37602) is a "one-off" heavy transport aircraft designed and built by the Hughes Aircraft company. The aircraft made its first and only flight on 2 November 1947. Built from wood due to wartime raw material restrictions on the use of aluminum, the Hercules is the largest flying boat ever built, and has the largest wingspan and height of any aircraft in history. It survives in good condition at the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Oregon.

An Airbus A380 sporting the colors of Emirates, taking off during the Dubai Air Show

The 555 seat, double deck Airbus A380 is the most ambitious civil aircraft program yet. Airbus first began studies on a very large 500 seat airliner in the early 1990s. The European manufacturer saw developing a competitor and successor to the Boeing 747 as a strategic play to end Boeing's dominance of the very large airliner market and round out Airbus' product line-up.

Mod Center

Leading Edge Aviation Services is a reliable provider of high quality strip, paint, wash and other services that can provide the mod-center with efficiencies in cost management and optimize their core competence as an aircraft maintenance provider. We can augment the mod centers with services that otherwise create inefficiencies due to the excess fixed and variable costs and hangar use associated with running a full time paint department juxtaposed to maintenance and repair

Mig-35: Czar Of The Skies Pictures

Ever since the esteemed Mikoyan Bureau of Russia started the production of migs, they were one of the most fearsome combat aircrafts of all times. Production started from MIG-15.This aircraft earned itself a name of “sabre-killer” during the Korean war in 60s.

The Mikoyan then came with mig-21, mig-23, mig-25, mig-27, mig29,-31 and mig-35.each one of these aircrafts proved themselves superior to the their Americans counterparts for the role they were built for.

Now the most sophisticated mig in the air is mig-35.lets see it’s main technical features:

1. It’s a 4.5 or 4++ generation combat aircraft with avionics of 5th generation.

2. It has an advanced airborne integrated air defence system, which makes it better for an air superiority combat aircraft.3. It has highly advanced opto-electronic radar, giving it a cutting edge for recon missions.

4. It has a 3 channel fly by wire control system, a technology possessed only by France till now.

The most impressive feature is the radar of this aircraft. It has AESA radar, which was developed with the help of an Italian company.

Ø Now what is AESA radar?

It is active electronically scanned array radar which gives the aircraft an upper hand for detection of its enemy at a distance of 250km or more. It is first Russian jet with this ability.

Ø Now coming to its powerplant. It has twin Rd-33MK engineswhich give it a force of around 9000kgf. Also it has vectored thrust nozzles which give it a good efficiency. This gives it a speed of mach 2.4.

Now for its own defence it has a range of features. The mig-35 has an optronic suite which gives it range of features.

Once airborne this aircraft is a perfect killing machine.

Metric superbikes

Metric superbikes such as the Suzuki Hayabusa or Kawasaki Ninja are a popular canvas from which these builders create their stretched and slammed customs. Some builders opt for the stripped-down, anodized, minimalist approach, while others never saw a metal bit that didn't deserve a layer of chrome. Different stokes for different folks, but any way you choose it, audaciousness is the prime mover of this rapidly growing niche in the world of motorcycles.
